Recently commissioned and now fully operational, the TBDUK designed monorail cabins provide a full team of bridge maintenance engineers with safe access to the various stations beneath the second Severn crossing.
Each cabin has a safe working load of 6 persons and is capable of driving either east or west along the 5.1km of monorail beneath the bridge structure. This unique access system enables operatives to be safely and efficiently transported to their designated work place without the need for dangerous traffic interference at highway level.
This project is a benchmark that clearly demonstrates TBDUK’s capability at the forefront of fully traceable, safety critical projects.
Monorail Cabin - (Under Inspection)
Having completed the design and manufacture of a bespoke solution, in this case with each individual welded joint receiving full MPI inspection, TBDUK employ stringent final inspection techniques to ensure absolute integrity before delivery to our customer.
Shown opposite is a monorail cabin undergoing live load testing in a controlled environment. Customer engineers are welcomed at these tests and records are maintained within our technical files.
The fixture holding the cabin, was purposely manufactured to carry out a range of tests simulating the actual operating conditions with the use of a test rail.
Monorail Cabin - (During Installation)
Our site engineers are fully trained and familiar with the most hazardous of working environments. We carry out the necessary risk
assessments and method statements and liaise with customer representatives before work commences.
The safety of our own engineers and customer employees is of paramount importance, which is why we take time to ensure all possible steps are taken to mitigate risks.
